Year 5 found out about French Easter traditions and how the French celebrate Easter. They learnt some Easter vocabulary which they then used to label pictures and complete a word search.

RE - Divine

Image
RE day was so interesting as the children learnt about the word ‘Divine’ and how it is connected to us in life and how Christians feel it is important. Divine has two meanings: Godlike, loyal as well as beautiful. The children were clearly able to discuss the things that are special, beautiful to them and by the end of the lesson they could discuss how Jesus performed miracles and the meaning of them.  Later on, the class made stained glass windows as it was such a sunny day, they looked perfect on the windows.

Over the last few weeks, Year 5 have revised and practised beach vocabulary, including learning some new words. They also used what they have learnt so far to annotate a poem. They also identified adjectives and looked at the position of adjectives in sentences in French. They then were introduced to command verbs and used them a the poem from the previous week to write a recipe for a beach poem.

To conclude our angles and shape unit, the children used 3D shapes to help them identify their different features. Using manipulatives really helps the children visualise the concept and support their learning.

RE Festival Workshop-Vaisakhi

Image
Today we learnt about the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi that commemorates the origins of the religion. To celebrate Vaisakhi, Sikhs will visit places of worship called Gurdwaras. Many people enjoy parades and special processions through the streets called Nagar Kirtans. Many Sikhs also choose Vaisakhi as the day to be baptised in to the Khalsa brotherhood. Often flags will be raised around the country displaying the Sikh symbol. We used the quilling method to decorate our own Sikh symbol, it took a lot of concentration as it was very fiddly!

Maths -Angles

Last week Year 5 had lots of fun measuring angles around the classroom! We set up angles on the childrens tables using masking tape. Children were able to practice their protractor skills and extend their knowledge by identifying which angles were: acute, obtuse, or reflex.
