Year 5 Blog 2024/25

 Year 5 learnt how to conjugate the verb jouer in the present tense. They also learnt to use jouer in the negative from. We spent some time identifying the pronouns and their meanings. 

 This half term we read and discussed the book , ‘Kenny lives Erica and Martina’ and the consequences of people not being respectful and welcoming to others. 

This week in Maths,  The children have been honing their skills as well as using different strategies to add and subtract numbers. The children enjoyed u sing the inverse to check their answers as well as estimating and rounding to see if their answers was correct. They also looked solved multi-step problems. 

 Today the children leant all about what belonging means to them and the importance of belonging for Muslims.  Children began by identifying what belonging means in terms of family, teams and schools. They identified how they felt when they belonged to something and other emotions felt when they didn’t feel like they belonged.  From watching clips and discussions, the children identified the 5 pillars of Islam as well as discussing why Muslims take their shoes off when they visit a mosque; why they don’t wear scruffy clothes and why they give money to charity. The children were really interested in why Muslims visit Mecca. 

 Today, the children were introduced to an Ordnance Survey Map. The began the lesson looking at the map to see what they could identify and take their time to have fun with a map. The children loved looking at these and finding places they recognised, including their homes and other places they have visited. From there, they were introduced to the key on the map and they different symbols. Part 1 of the lesson saw the children drawing symbols for different features. Finally, they recapped their 4 grid skills identifying the symbols in our local area. 

 We spent a lesson thinking about a new character.
