French: being a language detective and writing a poem

Image
Over the last few weeks, Year 5 have revised and practised beach vocabulary, including learning some new words. They also used what they have learnt so far to annotate a poem. They also identified adjectives and looked at the position of adjectives in sentences in French. They then were introduced to command verbs and used them a the poem from the previous week to write a recipe for a beach poem.

To conclude our angles and shape unit, the children used 3D shapes to help them identify their different features. Using manipulatives really helps the children visualise the concept and support their learning.

RE Festival Workshop-Vaisakhi

Image
Today we learnt about the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi that commemorates the origins of the religion. To celebrate Vaisakhi, Sikhs will visit places of worship called Gurdwaras. Many people enjoy parades and special processions through the streets called Nagar Kirtans. Many Sikhs also choose Vaisakhi as the day to be baptised in to the Khalsa brotherhood. Often flags will be raised around the country displaying the Sikh symbol. We used the quilling method to decorate our own Sikh symbol, it took a lot of concentration as it was very fiddly!

Maths -Angles

Last week Year 5 had lots of fun measuring angles around the classroom! We set up angles on the childrens tables using masking tape. Children were able to practice their protractor skills and extend their knowledge by identifying which angles were: acute, obtuse, or reflex.
