RE Festival Workshop-Vaisakhi

 Today we learnt about the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi that commemorates the origins of the religion. To celebrate Vaisakhi, Sikhs will visit places of worship called Gurdwaras. Many people enjoy parades and special processions through the streets called Nagar Kirtans. Many Sikhs also choose Vaisakhi as the day to be baptised in to the Khalsa brotherhood. Often flags will be raised around the country displaying the Sikh symbol.

We used the quilling method to decorate our own Sikh symbol, it took a lot of concentration as it was very fiddly!

One of the children brought in some memorabelia from Cowes including a plaque that was on the Blyskawica and an old photo from 1942.  This week, the children have planned the question they would like to answer about their local area as they will be heading into Cowes on Tuesday to collect their data.  Alongside this, the children were introduced to a risk assessment and taps a class they made a risk assessment for Tuesday. Such great ideas and discussions about risks and how we can keep ourselves safe when we go outside of school.
