Finding area of shapes including compound shapes

 This week the children have been finding the area of shapes including compound shapes. They started simply by finding area, moving onto finding the area of compound shapes and the area of missing shapes. Look out for the homework this week as the children will be recapping this. 

What is Global Trade?

Today, the children were introduced to their new journey; they will be studying Economics and Trade.  They identified what the definition of trade is and how they trade. From there they identified that we can import goods from another country and export goods from our country. This lead to a very clear understanding of global trade and how most of us buy goods from around the world.  Using this information, the class started to identify different objects, items of clothing they had or were wearing to see how they are connected to the world. Furthermore, they began to use the scale on a map to see how many km their items have travelled. 

Computing - Selection Lesson 1

 In Computing this half term we will be using selection to make Scratch quizzes.  Today we explored how selection can be used to make a program respond to different inputs. 

RE Festival Workshop- Hajj

 Today we looked at the Hajj, the Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which every adult Muslim must make at least once in his or her lifetime. The hajj is the fifth of the fundamental Muslim practices and institutions known as the Five Pillars of Islam. At Mecca, the pilgrims are obliged to perform several rituals, including walking seven times around the Kaʿbah shrine. About two million persons perform the hajj each year. We used a net to make our very own Ka'bah's out of paper.  I

The Labrynth

 There was so much excitement today as the children were given the chance to try out the new playground equipment. One child loved the spider web, another loved the monkey bars and tightrope. The children and adults can’t wait till after half term to have more time on there. 

Perimeter of shapes

 This week, the children have been building upon their knowledge of perimeters both in rectilinear shapes and polygons. Using different manipulatives has helped to identify the perimeter of each shape as well as re affirming whether the shape is regular or irregular.
