Our Local Area

 Today, the children were introduced to their new topic: Our Local Area and the journey they will study.

First, thy recapped the different lines of latitude , compass points and names of the hemispheres they had learnt in previous years. Then, they played ‘Where in the World’ followed by identifying where the Isle of Wight is located and the different towns and villages. Children were surprised to see that Newport is not found directly in the middle of the island but just below the River Medina. Furthermore, Ryde wasn’t towards the East. 

Finally, they looked at an aerial photo of Cowes where they annotated all the human and physical features.
