During this week, the children continued to increase their knowledge about decimals. This included rounding to the nearest whole and tenth. I have been amazed at how efficient the children are at converting decimals to fractions as well as writing the numbers correctly when a number is dictated to them. Towards the end of the week, the children have started to find add and subtract decimals using their place value knowledge.
Last week during RE, the children enquired as to what interpretation means. They then compared two stories about the birth of Jesus, one found in Matthew and the other in Luke. The explores what the different interpretations meant to Christian’s and then they debated as to whether one was more important than the other. Then, they looked at how we as individuals can interpret different things to others. Using the pictures below was a nice way of seeing this. Finally, the children applied their knowledge about a scenario in a playground.
Year 5 children went to Medina Theatre today to learn how different composers came up with the ideas for their sounds. It was a very, very, very hot experience. There was a 6 piece orchestra with a conductor who showed the children how to make their own pieces of music using different instruments. Throughout the show, the children were drip fed a song about chocolate cake and at the end of the session, they all sang the song with the orchestra accompanying them.
